Files, videos of Maui County Council meetings now online
WAILUKU, Hawaii – Streaming video and legislative files of Maui County Council meetings conducted in the Council Chamber will now be made available on the council’s website at MauiCounty.us, Council Chair Mike White announced today.
White said the council has contracted with a Colorado-based company called Granicus to provide live and archived video content on the website. He noted cablecast meetings by Akaku: Maui Community Media on Channel 53 will continue.
Council staff will now be posting online versions of documents such as meeting agendas, legislation and presentations, White said. This will help the county’s legislative branch use less paper, he said.
“This council is committed to transparency and improving access to government for all residents of Lanai, Maui and Molokai,” White said. “The videos and documents made available on Maui County Council’s website will make it easier for constituents to know what’s happening in county government and to provide well-informed testimony.
“The less-paper initiative will allow members of the public to look at the same material as councilmembers. Over time, bulky paper binders will no longer have to be maintained, as all legislative content will eventually be accessed online.”
White said this project was launched to encourage civic engagement and to provide the public convenience, but official documents may still be obtained from the Office of County Clerk and Office of Council Services.
White said he urges residents to try using the new tools and submit questions and other feedback to the Office of Council Services at 270-7665 or email@example.com.
