‘Imi Pono: The Greatest Challenge

Mahalo to all the students who sent in their bold, innovative ideas to build a sustainable and diverse economy now and for the future.

Your applications and presentations for a new invention, service, or product to help boost Maui County’s economy were truly inspiring.

In total, we received 175 entries from students all over Maui County, representing the following schools:

  • Iao Intermediate School
  • Kalama Intermediate School
  • Kamehameha Maui Middle School
  • Montessori School of Maui
  • Sacred Hearts School
  • Hawaii Technology Academy
  • Home School
  • Kamehameha Schools Maui High School
  • King Kekaulike High School
  • Lanai High & Elementary School
  • Maui High School
  • Maui Preparatory Academy
  • Molokai High School

Our esteemed judges were: Keiki-Pua Dancil, Sophia Davis, Everett Dowling, Mitzi Toro and Rob Weltman.  They scored 20 semi-finalist entries from both the middle school and high school categories on the following criteria: creativity, feasibility, profitability, impactfulness, resourcefulness and presentation.  The top three projects were selected for first, second and third place awards in each category.  Click on the project title below for a link to the student’s final submission.
