South Maui Informational Community Meeting to offer updates on Kona Low storm recovery efforts

KĪHEI, Hawaiʻi (May 22, 2026)—Residents and business owners are invited to attend an informational community meeting on the Kona Low storm recovery efforts on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Malcolm Center, Councilmember Tom Cook announced today.

Impacts from the Kona low storms in March caused significant damage, particularly to portions of South Kihei Road, Cook said. Representatives from the Office of Recovery will be on hand to share details about the ongoing work and answer questions, he added.

“We’ve heard from our community on the need for frequent and consistent updates and expected timelines for road closures,” said Cook, who holds the seat for the South Maui residency area. “Our residents, business owners, and visitors understand recovery work needs to be done, but they need to know what to expect to appropriately plan their day-to-day activities.”

The Malcolm Center is located at 1305 N. Holopono St., Suite 5, in Lipoa, formerly known as the Maui Research & Technology Park.

To assist with headcount, residents planning to attend are encouraged to RSVP by emailing Cook’s Office at Thomas.Cook@mauicounty.us.

For more information, or if you are unable to attend and would like to provide input, contact Cook’s office at (808) 270-7108, at Thomas.Cook@mauicounty.us or on social media at https://linktr.ee/tomcook.
