Deadline to apply for Kahului residency area funds approaching

KAHULUI, Hawaiʻi (Aug. 28, 2026)—Applications for grant funds totaling $150,000 for Kahului are due Oct. 1 at 5 p.m., Councilmember Kauanoe Batangan announced today.

Batangan said those interested in applying should do so through the Office of Economic Development’s Submission Manager, which lists detailed instructions. Applications are expected to take at least four weeks to process, Batangan said.

“I encourage Kahului residents and community organizations with ideas that can make a positive difference in our community to take advantage of these grant funds as the deadline is approaching,” said Batangan, who holds the council seat for the Kahului residency area. “These funds give our community an opportunity to support projects that support local families and improve the quality of life in Kahului.”

Eligible applicants include organizations seeking to “support local initiatives that enhance the quality of life, strengthen neighborhoods and respond to community-identified needs” in the Kahului residency area, as stated on the county website. Other parameters and required documents can be found in the Office of Economic Development’s Grant Handbook.

Batangan said he requests that applicants confirm their intent to apply or send a copy of their submitted application to his office at kauanoe.batangan@mauicounty.us.

For more information, visit the Office of the Mayor’s Grants Oversight and Leadership Division website or contact Batangan’s office at 808-270-5501.
