WAILUKU, Hawaiʻi (Sept. 22, 2026)—The Disaster Recovery, International Affairs and Planning Committee canceled tomorrow’s separate meeting agenda to reconvene Monday’s meeting at 9 a.m. and allow the committee to continue deliberations on Section 4, “Implementation and Monitoring,” of the draft South Maui Community Plan, Councilmember Tamara Paltin announced today.
The committee began deliberations on Section 3 Monday morning after closing testimony on the Sept. 21 agenda and continued deliberations today before recessing, she said. Under the canceled meeting agenda, the committee was slated to take up the plan’s Section 3, “Growth Framework,” she said.
“The process of deliberations and action on this vital plan for South Maui requires meticuluous attention to detail,” said Paltin, who chairs the committee. “We appreciate the public’s patience and input and apologize for confusion or inconvenience as we adapt our schedule to the unpredictable pace of deliberations.”
Written testimony for the new South Maui Community Plan is still being accepted via email or the eComment system on the council’s website, she said. The committee will next accept live testimony on the community plan Monday at 9 a.m., Paltin said.
The committee began its review of the community plan Sept. 14 and has been in deliberations each workday since then, with live testimony accepted at five meetings so far, Paltin said.
