Objective overview of proposed charter amendments available online and in Saturday’s newspaper

WAILUKU, Hawai‘i–-Council Chair Alice L. Lee announced today that an objective overview of the seven proposed amendments to the Maui County Charter will be published in a Maui News advertisement on Saturday.

She said the overview is also available online at MauiCounty.us/maui-county-charter/. The document has been reviewed for objectivity by state and county attorneys and other officials.

The 2020 proposed Maui County Charter amendments are on the following topics:

  • Affordable Housing Fund
  • Office of the Managing Director
  • Term Limits for Council Members
  • Standards for Charter Interpretation
  • Charter Commission
  • Term Limits for Mayor
  • Department of Agriculture

The proposals will be on the Nov. 3 general election ballot. For more information, please contact the Office of the County Clerk.
