South Maui Community Plan site visits and evening meeting scheduled for Monday

KĪHEI, Hawaiʻi (Sept. 11, 2026)—The Disaster Recovery, International Affairs and Planning committee will begin its review of the draft South Maui Community Plan Monday with two site inspections on Kulanihakoi Road and East Waipuilani Road at Liloa Drive, respectively, and an in-person only, evening meeting at the Kīhei Community Center, Councilmember Tamara Paltin announced today.

The first site inspection on the committee’s morning agenda for the proposed Mauka North Kīhei Planned Growth Area will begin at 9 a.m. followed by another for the proposed extension of North-South Collector Road at 10:30 a.m. The committee’s evening meeting at the Kīhei Community Center will begin at 5 p.m.

“The public’s input matters as we create new paths forward in our community planning,” said Paltin, who chairs the committee. “If you have thoughts to share, please attend and make your voice heard.”

The evening meeting includes a presentation from the Department of Planning on an overview of the plan followed by in person public testimony.

The plan will guide future growth and development in South Maui including housing, land use, transportation and infrastructure. It will update the community’s long-term vision and policies for planning and investment.

In the coming weeks, the committee will return to the Council Chamber to deliberate on the plan. Committee meeting agendas will be available on the council’s website. Due to agenda management software constraints, meeting details may be temporarily unavailable, Paltin added.

The evening meeting will be livestreamed on Akakū Channel 53, at MauiCounty.us and on the council’s Facebook and YouTube pages.
