Council Chair Lee urges public to follow official guidance on Maui fires

WAILUKU, Hawaii (August 8, 2023) – Maui County Council Chair Alice L. Lee tonight responded to the fires in West Maui, Upcountry Maui and other parts of the island by commending first responders and urging the public follow the emergency guidance at mauicounty.gov and other official sites.

Lee also thanked Lt. Gov. Sylvia Luke and Mayor Richard T. Bissen, Jr. for issuing emergency proclamations, which will allow for increased resources for residents facing wind-fueled fires throughout Maui. Lee noted the council’s operations are unaffected as no public meetings are scheduled until Monday.

“By remaining calm and relying on reliable information from official sources, we can all do our part to keep Maui strong through this fire emergency,” Lee said. “I join with my colleagues and everyone in Maui County in praying and hoping for everyone’s safety.”
